Jeanne Miller Images of the American West
Landscapes Celebrating the American West

Artist's Story
Welcome, and thanks for visiting.

I love the American West, and paint as a way to stay connected to my favorite places.

I live on California's beautiful Central Coast and enjoy all the time I can spend outdoors, on horses, and among working cowboys and ranchers. These folks attempt to shape and use the land but at the same time they know the impossibility of overpowering it. Beneath all their efforts lies a deep respect for the unpredictability and raw power of the land.

In paintings that celebrate earth, water and sky I hope to remind you of the beauty of the land -- just as it is.

Primarily self-taught, I create paintings in several different media, including oil, watercolor, water-media collage, pastel, monotypes, and French dyes on silk. Most images are western landscapes. Other frequent subjects are horses, cowboys and cows.

I prefer oil and pastel for capturing the grand, open western skies. Watercolor provides fantastic color opportunities and texture. Silk and watercolor are my favorites for horse and cow images. Finally, collage and monotype give me the rugged harsh feel of the mountains.

I love the process of creating fine works of art, and hope you enjoy your travels through my site. Thank you for your interest.
