Landscapes Celebrating the American West

Welcome, and thanks for visiting.

I live and work both in Singapore and on California's gorgeous Central Coast, near Santa Barbara. I love the American West, and paint its landscape primarily in oil and pastel.  While undeniably inspired by real places, I have to admit that I am not at all interested in rendering their realistic portraits.  Instead,  I use vibrant, intense color to convey the essence and spirit of a place, celebrating the drama of weather, the patterns of morning and evening light, and the qualities of the air itself.

I am drawn to the complex beauty of the western lands -- to their scale, serenity, and and intricacy - and each painting attempts to celebrate the mood of a specific place at a particular moment in time. I am attempting to share with you the feeling of being there.  I've succeeded if you look at one of my paintings and feel that you have been to that place, and my painting reminds you of the dry breeze, the fragrance of the grasses, or the glow of the light.

I have won awards in juried shows in Florida, North Carolina, and California. I'm a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association, the Goleta Valley Art Association, and SCAPE. My work may be seen in Santa Barbara's Gallery 113 and at juried exhibitions throughout the Central Coast.

I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.

Jeanne
